Summer is that time of the year when you want to kick back and relax—so if a cluttered home is preventing you from doing that, it’s time to make a change! Fortunately, there are many different ways to rid your home of unwanted clutter. In today’s blog, we’re sharing a few of our favorite (and easiest!) ideas.
Assess what you don’t need
If you want to achieve a noticeable change in your home’s clutter situation, you’ll probably need to make some major changes in what you keep around. Take some time to assess the clutter and determine what you truly need and what you could live without—for example, cards from family members versus magazine subscriptions you haven’t gotten to in six months. By focusing on what you truly want to keep around, you’ll simultaneously realize what you don’t actually need or want.
Go little by little
Don’t feel the need to get your decluttering project done in a day! If you have a big job ahead of you, break it down by room or even specific spots (like a particular bookshelf or set of drawers). This will allow you to stay focused on the task at hand.
Target frequently cluttered areas
During your decluttering process, pay special attention to those frequently cluttered spots. In many homes, these types of spots include foyer tables covered in mail, hall closets, the kitchen table and more. Know where your clutter tends to accumulate so that you can make a big impact where it counts.
Create solutions that fit your lifestyle
It may seem easy to clear the clutter away now—but if you don’t put effective solutions in place to avoid future clutter pileups, you’ll only see more of the same. Create solutions that will fit your lifestyle and needs. This can be as simple as adding a decorative mail tray to your front table or a hallway rack for shoes, coats and bags to avoid disorganized piles of clutter down the line.
Declutter with purpose
Decluttering your home may feel like a chore, but it can be extremely beneficial to families in need! As you find things you don’t need anymore (whether they be extra umbrellas, books, bags, coats, etc.), put them in a donation pile and bring it to a local charity. Your donation will mean a lot to the person or family who receives it—and at the same time, you’ll be free of excess items you simply don’t need!
By taking steps against clutter now, you should be able to enjoy a summer that’s peaceful and serene—and a home that matches!
